LSU basketball lands commitment from 7-foot JUCO power forward

LSU basketball just landed a fantastic depth piece for their front court ahead of the 2024-25 college basketball season. Earlier today, it was reported that the Tigers received a commitment from JUCO power forward Noah Boyed out of McCook Community College in Nebraska.

After landing a slew of transfer portal and recruiting guard additions over the offseason, coach Matt McMahon and LSU basketball have finally begun taking a swing at some big men.

Prior to today’s commitment, the Tiger class of 2024 ranked among the very best in the country, with 247Sports listing them at No. 16 nationally with three recruits and three transfers. However, earlier this morning, the rich just got richer, as JUCO power forward Noah Boyed elected to commit to the purple and gold.

A former Baylor signee, Boyed was set to join the Bears in Waco, TX for the 2024-25 college basketball season, but ultimately had a change of heart and decommitted from the program in late April. Now, just a few weeks later, the 7-foot, 230-pound Castries, St. Lucia product is officially set to make his way to Baton Rouge.

Selecting coach Matt McMahon and LSU basketball over several other big-time programs such as Oregon and Wisconsin, Boyed has the potential to see the court fairly early on, depending on how quickly he can adjust to the Division I level of college basketball.

Having averaged 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game during the 2022-23 season, the talented power forward excelled down low both on offense and defense. Possessing good footwork, fantastic touch and a willingness to be physical around the rim, he consistently showed an ability to score over and around defenders while making life hard for opponents on the other side of the court.

With today’s addition, coach McMahon’s squad should be all but finalized, meaning it’s time to start looking ahead to the upcoming season. Assuming Boyed follows through and signs with the Tigers, he’ll be competing against several other high-potential big men including Jalen Reed, Derek Fountain and Daimion Collins as he looks to make an impact in his first season with the program.
